MBA Skills Versus Real-World Business Practices: A Critical Analysis

Abstract
 
Learning business skills, and implementing business skills are two entirely different scenarios. There has been noted a wide gap between academic knowledge and the practical skills among the learners. This paper critically examines the business and management learning modules, the curricula and the practical business skills needed to be an agile worker. It investigates various types of curricula adopted by the universities in India and the most needed business skills that the corporate organizations need to grow in dynamic business environments. The paper focuses on case studies, comparing and contrasting different curricula with due concentration on the need for development of real world business skills. The study identifies key areas  where MBA training falls short or excels and factors that contribute to the possible gap academic and real world business skills. It also delves into discrepancies between the two worlds - academic and real business worlds. It concludes with the action insights on equipping the graduates sustainable and business-ready skills.
