Remote Work and Project Management: New Perspectives and Challenges

Nafio Banaqeeb, Independent Researcher.

Abstract

Project management as one of primary business functions has undergone a drastic change with the global shift toward work from anywhere, work from home or simply remote work. Though remote work is credited to have ushered small and big firms into an era of new business possibilities, there are unprecedented challenges too. Access to new and creative talent, cost efficiency in hiring, flexibility in operations, are some core advantages but it is known to disrupt the conventional business management models, communication styles, collaboration media, management and leadership. This paper explores the evolving relationship between remote work and business strategy, collective impact of work from employees from different locations, regions on the overall project management. It identifies, analyzes, and seeks to redefine the project management and leadership difficulties entailed in management of small and big projects when teams are scattered across different geographical locations. It focuses on the power of digitization, changing enterprise norms, cultural values, employee expectations, team leader visions, and other core business vitals directly or indirectly impact project success.

The study covers three major perspectives. (1) It describes how integration of digital tools make the remote work easy, how cloud based platforms, AI driven project management tools or other types of collaborative software and business systems enable seamless collaboration and coordination among team members. (2) It seeks to define, redefine challenges inherent in remote work management and thereby manage the projects for the clients. (3) It explores the shifts in management strategies, leadership styles, approaches where empathy, flexibility, emotional intelligence, business ethics, business security become essential to managing the teams, or the projects effectively.

This research ultimately contributes to current discourse with insights into how enterprises manage the projects, overcome remote work or project management hurdles, reshape the organizational functions for better outcome.
