AI-Driven Education: A Bibliometric Study
Abstract: This paper presents a bibliometric review of research on Artificial Intelligence in Education (AIED) covering 2010–2025 using publications indexed in Scopus and Web of Science (WoS). We synthesize publication trends, leading countries/institutions/authors, influential journals and papers, thematic evolution (keyword co-occurrence and topic clusters), and collaboration patterns. Analyses use established bibliometric tools (Bibliometrix and VOSviewer) and draw on recent bibliometric studies to triangulate findings. Key observations: (1) rapid growth in AIED publications since 2018 with a marked surge in 2021–2024 tied to advances in deep learning and large language models; (2) major thematic clusters include Intelligent Tutoring Systems, Learning Analytics, Adaptive Learning & Personalization, Automated Assessment, and Ethics/Privacy of AI in education; (3) the United States, China, and several European countries dominate output, while cross-disciplinary and industry-academic collaborations are increasing. We close with methodological caveats, research gaps, and a recommended agenda to guide future AIED scholarship.
